The End of Microsoft…

The ITGuy’s take:

To begin we must start from the end(that’s how my brain works so bare with me) let’s talk about windows 8. I must say Microsoft has gone major-soft with their latest OS. they’ve taken basically the same ui that’s worked for over 15 years(starting with Windows 98), and over hauled it into this cutsie operating system that lacks the key aspect of what they were going for ‘user-friendliness’. Look all over the blogosphers and news articles and there’s no denying the people aren’t buying it. The first mistake Microsoft made, was they attempted to achieve what has made Google and apple the monsters they are today, and that my friends is simplicity. In short that’s not Microsoft strong suit. They make tediously awkward software that frustrates their end users, and you know what it’s worked for a long long time.

So why the change? And why do I think they’re doomed?

Without this complete overhaul they risked the likelihood of becoming obsolete. The problem is, they’ve been irrelevant for the past 5 years. 5 years! Sitting on the sideline while apple who owns (17%ish) and google who’s owns (75%ish) of the US market have taken the reigns of the biggest technological movement since the release of the personal computer(do you see what’s happening here? Let’s go on). Let’s look at it this way: Microsoft was founded in 1981 so that makes them 31 years old in tech years that’s ancient, now you might say how about apple and IBM they’re old, yes but they reinvented themselves. Microsoft being away for 5 years is like any great professional athlete, who after retirement, decides to comeback and makes a fool of himself. Microsoft dropped the ball a long time ago and apple/google took that ball and ran with it.

Can Microsoft come back into relevancy? Let’s look at it this way how did Linux do in the 90’s going against Microsoft and apple? Well we know the results. How many people do you know run red hat? Google has become what Microsoft used to be, however there’s one big difference, google is a dynamic company it is regularly evolving and Microsoft has always been a slow moving dinosaur(static). Big example of that is android, YouTube, getting into the ISP ring, ad mob, etc etc etc they rarely make a poor purchase when getting into new eras of tech, its a company that redefines itself over and over again. And Microsoft, well what have they done in the past 10 years… Xbox.(period) they failed at search with live.com, yea something very few people remember, and now Bing a money pit that’s going nowhere. Here’s another analogy for this article folks, Microsoft has always built operating systems susceptible to viruses and sometimes a virus can be so bad the computer needs to be reformatted. Ironically Microsoft has had serious viruses for years and because of poor choices nothing has ever been done to remove them. It has been demoralized and out witted by far superior competition. This article started with the end and went towards th beginning and back to the end again(that’s how my brain works people sorry to everyone who has a headache right now) but sometimes a story needs to be told in a scattered fashion in order to understand the eventuality of a matter. Windows 8 was doomed from the beginning because the world has passed Microsoft by. Their funds will eventually dry up and neither windows 8 or anything else for that matter can save them.

Farewell Microsoft you had a good run,
ITGuy Signing off.
